How do I remove white gunk growing on vintage plastic buttons? I just bought more vintage and antique buttons at an estate sale. I always clean them, but occasionally I find one, like now, that has some kind of white gunk growing on the edges of plastic buttons. I don't have any idea how to get it off without ruining them. Can anyone help? |
| perhaps make a paste of bicarb and water, it cleans really well |
Where can I buy unique antique/vintage buttons from? I want to buy some buttons which have an antique look to them. I have some bronze ones but would like some in colour. I've looked on the internet and there is some nice ones but are so expensive! |
I'd check out antique stores. Sometimes they have bagfuls of buttons.
Also, garage sales are great places to get bags of them.
It's like a treasure hunt :) |
Where can I find Versace Buttons for a Vintage Suit? Hi there!
I was wondering if maybe you can help me. I am a fashion stylist, and I found this great Vintage Versace Suit for one of my prestigious Male Clients. The suit unfortunately is missing a front button (3 button closure) and 2 Cuff Buttons. The 3 front buttons are Larger than the cuff, and the Medusa Head is Silver, with what appears to have a black background.
Is there any way you can help me locate these buttons. My client is dying to wear the suit to an event in a few weeks.
Your help is greatly appreciated. |

How do i get the most money for vintage glass buttons? are black white and clear glass buttons from around 1920-1950 worth anything? and what is the best way to sell them.? |
Those sound really cool! I don't have much experience selling things like that, but I think you have a few options:
If you want to sell them locally, you could hunt around for an antique or vintage shop. Not a thrift store, but a real vintage store. They might be interested in buying the buttons from you, especially if you turn them into jewelry or a crafty thing.
Another option would be to sell them online. You could put them up on Ebay and maybe look around a bit first to see what they would be worth. You could also try craft websites. Etsy: www.etsy.com/ would be really good, you can set up your account and sell the buttons through there. I don't know how fast they would sell, though. There are other craft websites that you could contact, also, maybe do a search for them? If you have a lot of the buttons, I'm sure craft/art/jewelry websites would be really interested!
Good luck with selling them, I'd definitely take a look at them if you sell them somewhere, I'm sure they are really pretty! :) |
Where can I buy vintage ribbons/trims/fabrics/buttons? I'm looking to buy some vintage ribbons, trims, fabric and buttons for some sewing projects. I have no idea what types of stores would even have them since most fabric stores I've been to don't have vintage. Does anyone know where I can find some cheap deals? |
| you can find some in Places like Value village, even if you purchase something with lace attached you could remove the lace and use it for you project ,or Ebay, or an antique store that sells vintage clothing but I 'm sure that this would be very expensive or you could purchase lace and tea or coffee stain it to obtain the vintage look. |
Where can I get matching vinyl-covered buttons to replace lost ones on my vintage "tufted" vinyl chair? Vintage chair of mine that is bright orange (sounds awful, but it is a very cool modern shape w/ great lines and is comfy!) has a few of its vinyl-covered buttons missing. How can I get matching replacements? |
| take it to an upholstery shop. it has to have the vinyl removed to get access to put the buttons on properly. they will have a selection of vinyls. find the closest match. they will make & install the buttons then staple the vinyl back down. |

Why do some round vintage buttons I bought have a point melted at the edge? I just purchased an antique vase filled with vintage buttons from an estate sale. The lady who passed away was 99 years old. I sorted them, and found that some sets of the buttons have been melted to a point on the edge. These are not valuable ones, but I am curious as to why a person would do that? I thought maybe she had arthritis or something and it could make it easier to slip into a buttonhole. I don't know, but would like to find out. I have...well, thousand upon thousands of vintage and antique buttons. I have never seen this done to any of them before. Does anyone know why this was done? |
| For easier buttoning. The buttons are older than the previous owner. They may have belonged to her mother or grandmother. |
Place for antique/vintage buttons in London? I'm making a coat for my boyfriend's 20th and I'm looking for the perfect buttons, he is quite quirky so something antique/antique looking (but not those typical nautical buttons).
I was thinking of checking Liberty's haberdashery out but if anyone knows of any craft shop or market gems I'd love to hear!
(I know charity shops have lots of weird and wonderful things but I definitely want them all to match) |
You didn't say how many and what they are going on to, but I can think of one place which I think is still trading after the death of its founder:
www.thebuttonqueen.co.uk/ It's in Marylebone Lane, but from what I remember it's nearer the Oxford St end than the Marylebone end, but years since I've been. Portobello Road is another place to try, or raiding elderly relatives' button boxes (I have one!). Also, if you're Up West at the Button Queen, worth trying out McCulloch & Wallis. |
